A typical project will last six full days and is lead by the Stretch facilitator and a freelance artist. If it is a low category prison the group spend half the time in workshops onsite at the museums or galleries, other wise they are in practical workshops back at the prison. The project works towards a final exhibition and show within the prison or occasionally at the museum. Generic learning out comes for projects are:
- A raised interest in museums and galleries
- An increase in artistic skill and knowledge
- A desire to continue in education
- Increased self esteem
- Better communication of ideas
- Increase in personal and interpersonal skills
Stretch works with a few freelance artists who have worked on projects before and used to working within the Stretch methodology. The largest group that Stretch works with are prisoners. Stretch has facilitated successful projects between prisoners and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Royal Armouries Leeds, Northern Gallery of Contemporary Art, Baltic, The Discovery Centre Newcastle and Shipley Art Gallery. Stretch has also just delivered a heritage project and heritage sites around Yorkshire, such as film making at Mount Grace Priory.
